Michigan Synth Works MSW-820 Analog Synthesizer Eurorack
The Michigan Synth Works MSW-820 brings a complete dual-oscillator analog monosynth voice into a 46HP Eurorack format. Its synthesis engine combines two AS3340-based voltage-controlled oscillators with a sub oscillator, digital noise source, dual envelopes, a highly flexible 16-mode analog filter and extensive modulation options. The result is a self-contained synth voice that can operate as a traditional subtractive monosynth while remaining open to extensive control from the rest of a modular system.
Both oscillators provide sawtooth and pulse waveforms across 16', 8' and 4' ranges, with pulse-width modulation and dedicated pitch modulation. Hard-sync and oscillator-reset options allow the VCOs to move from conventional detuned analog tones to sharper, harmonically complex sounds. The mixer combines both oscillators with the sub oscillator, digital noise source and an external audio input before feeding the filter.
The AS3109-based VCF is one of the MSW-820's defining features, offering 16 analog filter configurations across low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and all-pass responses. Resonance reaches self-oscillation, while filter cutoff can be modulated simultaneously from the envelope, LFO, pitch and external CV using dedicated bipolar attenuverters. Audio-rate modulation from oscillator 1 further expands the filter into more aggressive FM-like and phase-rich territory.
A pair of ADSR envelopes handles modulation and amplitude duties, while the digital LFO provides eight crossfadable shapes, reset modes, phase control and synchronization. Alongside its internal modulation system, the MSW-820 offers V/Oct, gate, clock, external CV and secondary VCA CV inputs for integration with sequencers, modulation sources and other Eurorack modules. MIDI is also available through TRS and USB connections.
