The Universal Audio Volt 4 Max is a 12-in / 6-out desktop USB audio interface designed for recording, production, monitoring, and content creation. It combines Universal Audio's Tone Shaping Preamps and onboard Max compression with 32-bit / 192 kHz conversion, Auto-Gain, Clip Protection, a full-color Smart Display, and flexible connectivity for both studio and mobile setups.
Two microphone/line inputs provide up to 60 dB of digitally controlled gain, with three Tone Shaping modes—Warmth, Focus, and Shine—for adding different harmonic characters to your recordings. Max Processing provides six onboard compressor presets designed for sources such as vocals, guitar, and bass, with 18 possible combinations when paired with the three preamp modes.
Beyond the two front-panel Hi-Z instrument inputs, Volt 4 Max provides additional balanced line I/O for connecting external hardware, synths, drum machines, or other studio equipment. ADAT or S/PDIF optical input allows for further digital expansion, while MIDI In and Out provide connectivity for controllers and hardware instruments.
Volt 4 Max also features speaker switching between two sets of monitors, making it easy to move between your main and alternate monitoring systems. A built-in talkback microphone, two headphone outputs, loopback functionality, and USB hub make it equally suited to recording sessions, podcasting, livestreaming, and collaborative work.
The full-color Smart Display provides clear visual feedback for input levels, settings, and gain reduction, while Auto-Gain and Clip Protection help maintain usable recording levels without constantly monitoring the meters. USB bus power and class-compliant operation allow Volt 4 Max to work with Mac, Windows, iPad, and iPhone, while integration with UAD Console and LUNA provides additional recording and monitoring tools.
