4MS Sampler (2025) - Black
The Sampler is a versatile stereo or mono playback module that reads .wav files directly from a microSD card. It offers detailed control over sample playback, including pitch (with 1V/oct input), start position, and length. A dedicated knob and CV input allow you to select the sample within the active bank. You can define exactly where playback begins and how much of the file is played—from tiny grains to full loops.
Playback is triggered by pressing the Play button or sending a signal to the Play Trig input. Holding the Play button for one second enables or disables looping. Reverse playback is available via a button or CV jack, and the End Out jack sends a gate at the end of playback—perfect for chaining events or syncing loops.
If a sample contains embedded cue points (markers), the Start and Length controls will snap to them for quick and precise editing.*
To record new samples, hold both the Play and Reverse buttons for two seconds. Pressing Play again or triggering the Play/Rec Trig input will start and stop recording. New recordings are saved as stereo, 24-bit, 48kHz .wav files in the active bank's folder. Recordings can be as long as your SD card allows—up to 18 days with a 256GB card. Files are automatically split into 4GB chunks.
Sample Management
Samples are grouped into banks by placing up to 10 .wav files in a folder on the microSD card. Up to 60 folders (banks) are supported, for a total of 600 samples. Each .wav file can be up to 4GB (about 6.7 hours at 44.1kHz, 16-bit, stereo).
The included 16GB microSD card comes preloaded with hundreds of samples created for 4ms by artists such as Richard Devine, Moor Mother, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Daedelus, Bogdan Raczynski, and many more.
Features
-
Sample selection via knob or CV
-
Pitch control: CV and knob (range: -10 to +4 octaves)
-
Start position: knob and CV set the playback start point
-
Length control: knob and CV determine playback duration
-
Reverse playback: button and CV input
-
Bank selection: knob cycles through available folders
-
Volume control: adjust by holding Reverse and turning Start Pos
-
End Out: gate output at playback completion
-
microSD hot-swap: safe to remove/insert when Busy light is off; preloaded samples continue playing even if card is swapped
File Organization
Organizing your sample library is simple—just drag and drop folders of .wav files (max 10 per folder) onto the card. No need to rename anything. You can assign folders to color-coded banks by naming them accordingly (e.g., “Blue - Loops” loads into the blue bank). Subfolders are ignored—only top-level folders are scanned.
