Doepfer A-142-3v Envelope/LFO Controlled VCA Vintage Ed
The Doepfer A-142-3v is the Vintage Edition of the A-142-3 Envelope/LFO Controlled VCA, combining an AD/AR envelope generator, looping LFO, and audio VCA in a compact 4 HP module.
The envelope section provides dedicated Attack and Decay/Release controls and can operate in either AD or AR mode. The generator uses exponential charging and discharging curves, producing natural envelope shapes well suited to percussive sounds, amplitude shaping, and other dynamic modulation applications.
In AD mode, the generator can also be switched into continuous LFO operation. The LFO retains exponential rising and falling slopes and provides a unipolar output ranging approximately from 0 to +10V.
An internal jumper selects between two timing ranges. One range covers approximately 4 ms to 7 seconds for Attack and Decay/Release, while the faster setting provides approximately 0.1 ms to 150 ms. In LFO mode, these ranges allow frequencies extending from very slow cycles of around 0.05 Hz up to audio-rate operation.
The integrated VCA uses a CEM3381 and features a linear control response. The VCA is AC-coupled and intended specifically for audio signals rather than control-voltage processing.
The envelope output is internally attenuated by approximately 50% and normalized to the VCA's CV input, allowing the built-in envelope or LFO to control amplitude without an external patch cable. An external 0 to approximately +5V control signal can be patched to the CV input when independent VCA control is desired.
A manual Gate button is provided for triggering the envelope directly and can also temporarily suppress an externally applied Gate signal.
